The Environment Agency want your comments on their proposed decision on EDF’s permit in respect of the Acoustic Fish Deterrent for Hinkley Point C.

8th May 2023

EDF have applied to the EA to remove all references to the acoustic fish deterrent (AFD) from their permit.

The AFD is essential for fish to be deterred from being sucked into the water-cooling mechanisms of the proposed Hinkley Point C.

Without the AFD fish and mammals will be killed in their billions over the lifetime of the nuclear power station.

The EA should take account of your statement if you comment on whether the right process is being used for the activity, for example, whether the technology is the right one.

What is the real cost of nuclear power?

No one knows, until the final bill for dealing with the waste has been totted up in thousands of years. EdF and the UK government are planning to dump the waste, and the costs of managing it, onto future generations.

Stop Hinkley was founded in 1983

We played a major part in the 14-month public enquiry in 1988/9  and continued to campaign for alternative renewable energy sources and energy conservation measures.

The closure of Hinkley A was announced in May 2000 as a result of our campaigning.
