EDF’s Hinkley C Nuclear Power Station could wipe out 11 billion fish – decimating stocks in Severn Estuary for 60 years.

25th August 2021

A condition placed on EDF by the Environment Agency (EA) when it was awarded permission to build Hinkley Point C was that Acoustic Fish Deterrents (AFDs) would be placed on the two massive cooling water intake heads 3 kilometres offshore from the nuclear site. EDF is now trying to renege on its commitment and is seeking a variation on the planning conditions imposed.

What is the real cost of nuclear power?

No one knows, until the final bill for dealing with the waste has been totted up in thousands of years. EdF and the UK government are planning to dump the waste, and the costs of managing it, onto future generations.

Stop Hinkley was founded in 1983

We played a major part in the 14-month public enquiry in 1988/9  and continued to campaign for alternative renewable energy sources and energy conservation measures.

The closure of Hinkley A was announced in May 2000 as a result of our campaigning.
