Sailor Makes Hinkley Protest
15 March 2012 Bridgwater yachtsman John Laband made a dramatic protest off the coast from the Hinkley Point power station last weekend to mark the first anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan. His 40 foot long boat, a Victorian Gaff Ketch, carried a giant banner reading WE SAY NO TO NUCLEAR NOT GREEN, NOT NEEDED, NOT SAFE, LETHAL WASTE LEGACY FOREVER WE SAY YES TO WIND,WAVE, TIDE AND ALL RENEWABLES. John, a former district councillor for Highbridge who has now joined the Stop Hinkley campaign, sailed to the isolated location with his partner Jackie to coincide with a mass protest outside the power station gates. John can be contacted on 07768 566 945.
