NO CHOICE OVER NUCLEAR? Western Daily Press, 22 May 2006 A New wave of nuclear plants could be rushed through the planning system without proper debate, activists have warned. The Government is considering fast-tracking nuclear power stations because applications can take years. But opponents say the move would make the planning process a "charade" and "fundamentally undemocratic". Jim Duffy, co-ordinator of Stop Hinkley, said: "It is vital the planning stage is open and transparent." The West has nuclear plants located at Hinkley Point, in Somerset, Oldbury, in South Gloucestershire, and a decommissioned station at Berkeley, in Gloucestershire. http://www.westpress.co.uk 060522
