21st June 2021

The Planning Inspectorate which is examining EDF’s proposal to build two further EPR reactors at Sizewell C in Suffolk will be visiting the Hinkley Point C site in Somerset on Tuesday 22nd June, along with some of those objecting to the proposal.

Stop Hinkley campaigners will be at the ‘elephant’ roundabout from 11.30am to greet the arrival of folk from Sizewell at 12 noon.

In the meantime, Stop Hinkley spokesperson, Roy Pumfrey, has sent the letter below to the Inspectorate and news media in Suffolk.

What is the real cost of nuclear power?

No one knows, until the final bill for dealing with the waste has been totted up in thousands of years. EdF and the UK government are planning to dump the waste, and the costs of managing it, onto future generations.

Stop Hinkley was founded in 1983

We played a major part in the 14-month public enquiry in 1988/9  and continued to campaign for alternative renewable energy sources and energy conservation measures.

The closure of Hinkley A was announced in May 2000 as a result of our campaigning.
